1. Who is responsible for your data

Ask The Movie is operated by Sales Leak Labs, which is the controller of personal information processed through this service. Questions and privacy requests can be sent to support@askthemovie.com.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use Ask The Movie, we may collect:

• account information supplied through Clerk, such as your email address, display name and account identifier;
• movie and series prompts, chosen content type, recommendations, feedback, saved and watched items, and spoiler preferences;
• Ask Together room details, participant names and preferences you choose to share;
• invite, referral, plan and usage-limit information;
• technical and product events, including page actions, provider-link clicks, approximate request latency, errors, and AI token or cost estimates; and
• strictly necessary cookie and device information used to keep you signed in, protect the service and prevent abuse.

We do not receive your payment-card details. If paid features are offered, payments are processed by Stripe under its own privacy terms.

3. How and why we use it

We use this information to provide personalised recommendations and Q&A, remember your lists, operate Ask Together, manage accounts and access, troubleshoot failures, monitor costs and performance, prevent misuse, and improve the service.

Our legal bases are performance of our agreement with you, our legitimate interests in operating and improving a secure service, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where the law requires it. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing.

4. AI and recommendation processing

Your prompts and relevant movie context may be sent to AI providers to generate recommendations or answers. Please do not include sensitive personal information in a prompt. AI output can be inaccurate and may reveal plot details despite our spoiler controls, so it should be treated as a suggestion rather than an authoritative statement.

5. Services that help us operate

We use service providers for hosting, authentication, databases, AI generation, movie metadata, streaming-availability data, payments, security and operational monitoring. These may include Vercel, Clerk, Neon, OpenAI, TMDB, Streaming Availability API and Stripe. They process information only for their relevant service and under their own terms where you interact with them directly.

Links to streaming services, TMDB or other sites take you to independent third parties. We do not control how those sites process your information.

6. Sharing and international transfers

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the providers needed to run Ask The Movie, when you ask us to share content, in connection with a business reorganisation, or when required by law. Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where required, we rely on recognised safeguards such as adequacy regulations or approved contractual protections.

7. Retention and security

We keep account and product data for as long as it is needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes and protect against abuse. Retention periods vary by record type and provider. You may ask us to delete your account and associated personal information, subject to records we must retain by law or for legitimate security purposes.

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.

8. Your rights

Depending on applicable law, you may ask for access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or portability of your personal information, or object to certain processing. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office. Contact support@askthemovie.com to exercise a right; we may need to verify your identity first.

9. Children

Ask The Movie is not intended for children under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can review and remove it where appropriate.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product or law changes. We will post the revised version here and change the effective date. For a material change, we will provide additional notice where reasonably possible.
