1. Who is responsible for your data

Ask The Movie is a trading name of Sales Leak Labs LTD, registered in England and Wales under company number 15758378. Sales Leak Labs LTD is the controller of personal information processed through this service. Questions and privacy requests can be sent to support@askthemovie.com.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use Ask The Movie, we may collect:

• account information supplied through Clerk, such as your email address, display name and account identifier;
• movie and series prompts, selected content type, recommendations, feedback, saved and watched items, and spoiler preferences;
• Ask Together room details, participant nicknames and preferences you choose to share;
• plan, subscription, usage-limit and purchased-generation information;
• technical and product events, including feature interactions, provider-link clicks, request latency, errors, rate-limit events and AI usage or cost estimates; and
• strictly necessary cookie and device information used for authentication, security and abuse prevention.

We do not receive or store your full payment-card details. Payments and subscription billing are processed by Stripe.

3. How and why we use information

We use information to provide recommendations and Q&A, remember your lists, operate Ask Together, manage subscriptions and allowances, provide support, troubleshoot failures, monitor costs and performance, prevent misuse and improve the service.

Our legal bases may include performance of our agreement with you, our legitimate interests in operating and improving a secure service, compliance with legal obligations and consent where required by law.

4. AI and recommendation processing

Your prompts and relevant movie context may be sent to AI service providers to generate recommendations, facts or answers. Please do not include sensitive personal information in a prompt. Automated output can be inaccurate and may reveal plot details despite spoiler controls.

5. Services that help us operate

We use service providers for hosting, authentication, databases, AI generation, movie metadata, streaming-availability data, payments, security and operational monitoring. These may include Vercel, Clerk, Neon, OpenAI or Vercel AI Gateway providers, TMDB, Streaming Availability API and Stripe.

Links to streaming services, TMDB or other external sites take you to independent third parties. Their own privacy policies apply when you use those services.

6. Sharing and international transfers

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where needed to provide and secure the service, when you ask us to share content, in connection with a business reorganisation or when required by law. Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where required, recognised transfer safeguards apply.

7. Retention and security

We also store content reports and deletion requests to resolve safety and privacy concerns. Reports can include the reported content and information you choose to provide. Our Android beta uses the same account and backend as the website. Its offline page does not store your prompts, answers or account pages for offline use.

We keep account, subscription and product data for as long as needed to provide the service, meet legal or accounting obligations, resolve disputes and protect against abuse. Retention periods vary by record type and provider.

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including authenticated account access, server-side entitlement checks, rate limiting and signed payment webhooks. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

8. Your rights

You can request deletion of your account and associated data from the website or Android app. You do not need to reinstall the app. Requests are reviewed by our support team; we aim to complete them within 30 days.

Depending on applicable law, you may ask for access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of or portability of your personal information, or object to certain processing. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office. Contact support@askthemovie.com to exercise a right; we may need to verify your identity first.

9. Children

Ask The Movie is not intended for children under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can review and remove it where appropriate.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product, providers or law changes. We will post the revised version here and provide additional notice for material changes where reasonably appropriate.
